Recent Changes for the 2007-08 School Year

Backpacks

Students will need a backpack for school. The type of backpack is not important.

Lockers / Textbooks

We will not use lockers this year except in Physical Education and Athletics. Our new school with is schedule to open by mid-November of 2008 will not have lockers. Most new schools are being built without lockers. Due to textbooks becoming a secondary source of resourceful education, lockers are not as needed as years past. Education is evolving in a direction that many other useful resources are being used for teachers and students regarding learning. Our students today need resources that encourage them to think globally and more analytically. Our goal is to provide students with a textbook to be sent home as well a classroom set of textbooks in each classroom. For many classes, especially core classes, we will be able to provide this service.

A Letter from the Principal's Office

Dear fine folks of the Elgin community,

The 2007-08 school year will be a great experience for all involved. The students at Elgin Middle School will be influenced daily by a caring faculty, staff, and administration. We are going to open the minds of the students, encouraging them to think and enjoy learning. While much of the learning process is memorization, we would be doing these young people a huge injustice if we did not put them in a position to interpret, analyze, create, judge, and evaluate. We intend for every child to expand their potential!

We are proud of the fact that we have a very safe campus with a family atmosphere. Our social climate will be supportive and helpful as we strive daily to mold great citizens. Everyone on our campus will be cooperative and encouraging as we progress to excellence.

The 2006-07 school year brought about many positive changes. We have been rated at an Academically Acceptable Campus by the Texas Education Agency and we met the standards set by the federal government. We had huge gains on TAKS scores with students of all ethnic groups and socio-economic backgrounds. Our students and all of the employees at Elgin Middle School are truly winners. We can now set our sites on higher ratings and do everything possible to achieve these goals.

If you have any questions, suggestions or desire to volunteer, please do not hesitate to call or email me. We need your support as we work daily to “Be About What’s Good”.
